[QUOTE BY= peacedove] Here is one issue that is not discussed much in the media. This involves people who are socially conservative and fiscally liberal. Social conservatives and fiscal liberals do exist in large numbers. One example is Latin America. Latin America has been elected populist nationalist governments since 2000. At the same time, the society is very much socially conservative. Another example is the progressive wing of Christian Democratic parties in Western Europe and Northern Europe
This is also one of the fastest growing groups in USA and Canada. One can look at the Hispanic population in the US Deep South. In Canada, you can look at the Toronto area. In many ethnic communities, children are raised at home and most people have strong pro-life values. These groups also vote Liberal.
It is wise for Liberals not to make abortion an issue just to attack Conservatives. It could backfire. Liberals may end up losing seats in the Toronto suburbs. Liberals should work to unite both sides such as reducing poverty as a way to reduce abortions.
I see what you are saying. However I think it is also worth noting that if anything, the Conservatives are fiscally conservative (as much as they can get away with) while actually not touching most of the social issues and maintaining the liberal status quo to prevent stirring things up.
