I don't know what it means to have a 'strong' law, but I know we've got the 2nd-highest incarceration rate in the western world, which I'm not really proud of. There should definitely be consequences for people who wrongly imprison others, if there aren't any already.
Drugsa are for retards and serve absolutely no purpose to our society. I say its a good thing that people go to jail for it I mean if they can't look after themselves its obvious we need to do it for them.

On that note i think Canada should be pursuing a war on drugs and killing all producers of any drugs
If that is not an abuse and misuse of the justice system I don't know what is. Here is why the "War on Drugs" is a fallacy:

First, how do you intend to rehabilitate those guilty for drug possession by incarcerating them with murders, rapists, or other violent offenders? There is a big difference between those who grow some pot, and those who make cocaine or crystal meth.

Second, as you say, "drugs are for retards" wouldn't drug use/addiction constitute a mental illness? So you are saying "it's a good thing to incarcerate the mentally ill because they become addicted to drugs and they are mentally deficient". You know the nazis exterminated the mentally retarded... why would you want to take the expense of sheltering, feeding, and clothing them when they can be "cured" much more cheaply with a "9mm pill". No, thanks, discrimation of ANY type does NOT help our society.

Third, prison is neither sufficiently equipped to treat mental illness nor drug addiction. Why should all attempts at rehabilitation be foregone when their is a decent chance a person's addiction can be cured outside of prison?

Fourth, http://www.drugwarfacts.org/

The War on Drugs has been going on for decades and was expanded under Edgar J Hoover, a virulent racist and blackmailer. The "War on Drugs" has been proven to be a failure, because just like the "War on Terror", its a battle fought entirely on the grounds of ethnicity, ideology, fear, and most of all hate.
If we don't know what we are doing, the enemy certainly can not anticipate our future actions. |
