I just heard former general Romeo Dalaire on CBC radio saying that when the Canadian military is done with it's guns , they sell them on the world market, where they find their way into the hands of child soldiers, who are forced to kill their parents, siblings and other family members , or be killed themselves on the spot. The glut of guns they contribute to brings the price of their guns down to around three dollars .Dalaire said it would be a relatively small cost to the Canadian military to simply have these guns melted down and thus taken off the market, a fraction the cost of the gun registry.
Unlike guns owned by civilians in Canada , which very rarely injure anyone, these guns are guaranteed to kill many innocent civilians around the world.
So why spend billions on controling guns a that are extremely unlikely to injure anyone, while supplying the world market with guns that are guaranteed to kill many?
Has anyone heard of gun registry advocates like the aptly named Windy Kookier, ever advocate that the Canadian government keep these guns off the world market? I never have.
What abysmal hippocracy to run a multi billion dollar campaign to control, smoke and mirrors style , guns that rarely hurt anyone , while ignoring the sale of guns that are guaranteed to kill many.
Don't expect either of the two main right wing parties to do what is against the interests of the multinational corporations in their campaign to eliminate people in rural areas , to minimise inconvenience to their unhindered resource exploitation, unless we make it an issue in an election campaign. Will gun control advocates refocus their attention on these far more deadly guns. Not likely.
Do we need gun control? For the military, definitly. For the honest hunter, not a chance. He is simply a scape goat, and show and tell to mislead super gullible advocates of civilian gun control.
You advocate gun conrol? Let's start with your guns , big brother.

The BC lower mainland has turned into a wild west show with six people shot in gun battles in the last week. Some gun control. Now that the economy has melted down, perhaps it's time to realocate resources where they have some chance of showing some success. The gun registry has been an abysmal failure. Time to admit it and stop the cash drain.

Good news. The house of commons has voted 167 to 134 to scrap the long gun registry. 14 NDP and 8 Liberals voted to scrap the registry. This is second reading. Now it goes to Committee, then the senate which will be stacked with tories by january. Then it goes to third reading, then it's a done deal. There is very little chance of it being defeated at this point.
They said it would be a close vote, it was nowhere near close.
With the debt reaching half a trillion dolars , this is a good time to chalenge squanndering tax dollars on the rest of the gun contro fiasco, to a save the funds for things that actualy work.
