Title: A Biography of Mordecai Richler - Name-Dropping in Search of a Character
Written By: Robin Mathews
Date: Monday, May 16 at 13:12
Charles Foran has written a huge 'biography' of Mordecai Richler - his 'life and times'.  To a knowing reader, it may be propaganda, and it may be anything but a 'life and times'.

So now Robin the Gasbag is the Canadian left's answer to Joe McCarthy, but without the power.

To his credit, though, he hasn't let the *CONSERVATIVE MAJORITY GOVERNMENT* get him down to the point of not being able to write.

"If Mordecai Richler was a socialist, so is Margaret Thatcher."

What's next for the Gasbag? Outing Norman Bethune as a closet fascist?

From where the Gasbag sits on the spectrum, Leon Trotsky probably looked like a reactionary.

This is what rightistas believe - except for the 'everyone' part. Why you may (or may not) ask? Well, primarily it is because it is no fun being out for yourself without putting someone else down. That is why all successful businessmen are crooks - and that is why there are no rightwing governments that are not outright dictatorships, or defacto dectatorships.

Wow, you really believe that? You're not a socialist, you're a caricature of one, a cartoon character.

You do realize that with those statements that you've placed yourself so far outside the Canadian politcial mainstream that it's amazing you haven't fallen into the ocean. You might want to pull your nose out of Vive and the Tyee comments board long enough to catch a sniff of reality.

If you want real corruption and dictatorship, put everything under state control. You'll find yourself getting nostalgic about those "everyone for himself" businessmen.

If, as, and when you open both eyes, you will see we are there. What you don't see is the "...boot stomping on a human face -- forever."

The trouble with you recidivist Macarthy types is that you insist on meglomaniacal marching armies, which are so yesterday.
