Yeah, fix broken window panes-THERES leadership for you. Obviously you've not spent much time in New York. The murder rate is more than Toronto, and thats a measure of 'success'? Because 'its not the hell on earth people think it is'? Hey boys, we've got your new tourist slogan:

"NEW YORK-ITS NOT THE HELL ON EARTH YOU THINK IT IS!"

Or just the shortened version "New York City-Its not hell on earth-you're thinking of Buffalo"

My favourite was when Julie-Annie made a one time bonus on social security "so that people will have the freedom to leave". That was hysterical. The poor people of New York were being horribly detained, so now they can get the hell out.

I wonder where the calls will be routed- "hello, Toronto Police-how can I direct your call- 'swat team', 'property damage' or 'window repair'? I have an even better idea. If we put mickey mouse ears on all the rats and paint little yellow buttons on them, then we can say "No, THIS is the happiest place on earth!"

Too bad Toronto got rid of all the squeegee kids, they could have hired them to keep all those newly repaired windows clean.

Other great ideas:
1. Tie brooms to the ends of the windmill to keep the sidewalk dust free
2. Make Tim Hortons design their cups so they are white in winter and green in summer so they 'blend in'.
3. When planes come in to land have them reverse their engines to vacuum out the tarmac
4. Fix those windows-and put a picture of a face peeking out-people with think somebody is staying there and its target practise for the cops
5. Actually get OWNERS to be responsible for keeping their buildings in repair or else repossessing it from their sorry asses
6. Go to impoverished areas and force all residents to start each day singing Monty Pythons "Always look on the bright side of life"
7. Pay the carribbean for one of those hurricanes to 'flush out the downtown core'

See, its just so easy when you put your mind to it. Crime and dust free!
Yeah, fix broken window panes-THERES leadership for you.
While you're at it, why not just piss on September 11th and how Giuliani basically assured the nation (not just NYC) that he was on it?

Seriously...go ahead, you're a Canadian. Canadians habitually like to piss on Americans, so why not just piss on September 11th?

Ok, how about this:

"Hundreds of firefighters demonstrated Friday against a plan to cut the number of workers searching for bodies at the World Trade Center site, and several scuffled with police. ''Mayor Giuliani, let us bring our brothers home,'' read one sign at the rally near the site, where 343 firefighters and 23 New York City police officers were among the thousands of people lost Sept. 11."

or this:

"...firefighters are accusing the city of essentially trying to speed up the recovery operation in order to return this very valuable patch of real estate -- basically to put it back into business as usual. Whey they say they want to do -- they say their goal is simply to recover the remains of their fallen colleagues and everyone else killed at the World Trade Center on September 11."

or this:

"Last Friday, firefighters protesting a reduction in the number of their searchers at Ground Zero rushed the site, breaking through police lines and injuring five police officers. Some firefighters were led off in handcuffs. Hundreds of others massed outside City Hall, chanting, "Rudy must go!"

or:
Unions representing cops and firefighters have requested permits to protest at the Republican National Convention in August at Madison Square Garden. "There's going to be a lot of discontent by a lot of people when this convention gets to town," Al O'Leary, spokesman for the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, said last night.

Cops and firefighters are angry that New York gets less homeland security funding per person than virtually any state in the nation. Firefighters and police are also upset that the city has yet to give them a contract they can ratify. "If police and firefighters don't have a contract, we are going to voice our disgust at this administration," said United Firefighters Association President Stephen Cassidy."

or:

"Firefighters and police officers across the city gave Mayor Bloomberg the thumbs-down yesterday on cutting back the NYPD and FDNY. "Go ask anyone who was pulled out of a fire if the Fire Department should be cut," said firefighter George Maloney, 34, an eight-year veteran of the department. "Ask anyone who was burned in a fire if we should be cut. Ask anyone who was saved from the World Trade Center if we should be cut."

or:

Former Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik accepted thousands of dollars in royalties from a book published to raise money for the families of heroes killed on Sept. 11, 2001, the Daily News has learned.

Kerik's royalties on the book have so far totaled $75,954.52, sources told The News.

In contrast, former Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, who also wrote an introduction to the book, accepted no money. Kerik's royalty checks were mailed to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's consulting firm in the name of Gryphon Strategic Group, a Delaware-based entity that Kerik created."

or:

"The number of New York City residents who disapprove of his handling of crime has jumped almost 30 points since fall, to 50 percent in this latest poll, and a majority believe that Mr. Giuliani's law enforcement policies have contributed to an increase in police brutality."

or

"Their complaints (relatives of 9/11 victims) have been supported by a growing mass of critical findings on gaps in command, control and communications among New York's agencies in charge of emergency response....The commission released two reports that mark the most comprehensive probe to date of New York's response on Sept 11. The findings detailed a list of failings including poor communication, gulfs in cooperation between police and firefighters and grave deficiencies in the city's 911 emergency telephone network."

What's your point? that Giuliani did a bad job over September 11th?

And what?
I Just finished Giuliani's book 'Leadership'. It's amazing how he navigated his way through all the problems of NYC, and *won over* the bureaucracy that he inherited.

Sure, the guy was iron fisted, but the results are there for all to see. NYC is no longer the 'hell on earth' we are led to believe. In a twist of irony, even though the murder rate is higher in NYC, people feel *safer* in NYC than today in some streets of Toronto!

It's not just about police arrests and how many bad guys the cops can arrest.

Giuliani's reasoning was that if there was an abandoned building with a *single* broken window pane...then it's basically letting the entire neighbourhood know loud and clear that more window panes can be broken or worse...the place can be taken over and turned into a crack-house.

Giuliani's edict was simple: Fix the broken window pane and thus i'll be more difficult for someone to break that first pane.

See the rising amount of grafiti in Toronto? Call it what you want, I call it an eyesore and vandalism. It's just a matter of time before 'crack-houses' begin to make their foray into this city and other breeding grounds for crime.

Toronto doesn't just need more cops, Toronto needs basically to do what Miller PROMISED but has yet to deliver:

CLEAN UP THE CITY.

Miller simply doesn't have the vision. He's too afraid to piss off the reporters and hence he's always playing to the camera. Giuliani was HATED for years by the media and some of the public.

After September 11th? The guy can now run for president (I hope he does)
Guiliani also has his mistress living in his house WITH his wife. But yeah, Miller is way to PC and soft to be a great mayor.

The whole Monica Lewinsky fiasco was a black eye on the Republican party. It was bullshit to attack a politician on doing something stupid.

Clinton getting a blowjob in the Oval Office was stupid.

Dumbass should of gotten a MOTEL ROOM.

As For David Miller, I agree...he only wants to say the 'right' thing...but he would do the RIGHT THING, which would mean pissing off his darling glow in the media.

No, 2005 is now being called 'YEAR OF THE GUN'

2006 will be 'YEAR OF THE SEMI-AUTOMATIC'

and 2007 will be 'YEAR OF THE FULLY AUTOMATIC HOLLOWPOINTS'

All the while Miller will keep trying to raise taxes to throw money at bad neighbourhoods...while our immigration policy is allowing crime to simply fly into Canada in droves.

thank you David Miller (asshole)
