Sounds like a good idea... is there any reason NOT to support this motion?

If this passes I'll eat my hat! This is a country where we can't even get the government to discuss GM food and where labelling is voluntary and not even regulated. Trans fats are in virtually ALL snacks. It's nice the NDP are trying, maybe some GM regulations could be added to the list. I'd be most impressed if they'd just push the government to rehire the three scientists recently fired for voicing their concerns about Health Canada's lack of enforcement.

Trans-fatty acids make up the smallest portion of our diet. If we banned them they would just be replaced with more saturated fats, so its six of one/half dozen of the other. The government should be educating the public about making healthy choices, enforcing proper labelling, and providing funding for Physical Education. I'd rather see the people take that crap of the market by refusing to eat it.

Arc, true, but trans-fats are WAY worse for you than saturated fats. I googled "trans fats" and was apalled by what I learned. Yeah, we need more complete healthy living standards, but with only the small NDP pushing it in Ottawa, we have to be happy with baby steps.

I do support the ban, but I just think that we need to do more in terms of preventative health care. But like you said, Baby steps.

The media gave Dosanj (the traitor) good coverage out of this. Nice that those Libs SUPPORT good bills now and then. Too bad they don't think to propose them themselves.

Instead, the NDP has to mention them so the Liberals can actually get to work.

The NDP did a good job at using the opposition day to table the trans fat bill. I hope next opposition day they put in proportional representation!

Well people, perhaps it is because the NDP may not get into power, that they're able to make such commitments to the country. Since they can't be bullied by sponsors to do what they want, the NDP comes up with purely original ideas, for our health and well-being. I'd like to consider them as Canada's conscious, where they give that little whisper telling you to rethink about doing something bad.
