The 'for show' aspect comes into it when we ask how many times does ANY level of government ask the population ANYTHING. It's pretty rare.

In Canada, well, its been a long time since canadians have even been CLOSE to controlling any agenda.
I think these comments should be on the front page.

It's true, all forms of governments tell their citizens that their system is the most just and democratic, yet none really are. I guess we should be happy for we get to vote, but in the end always unelected corporations determine policy, so our votes are pretty meaningless. In fact, democracy is effectively the rule of the stupid. People who don't know the first things about politics and history always vote. They base their vote on the little information that gets through to them via the corporation controlled mass media. They are brainwashed useful idiots and they have the power. Or rather, the people who brainwash them do. In a way, this system is not any more just then outright dictatorship.

If Chinese were ready for democracy, every Hong Kong politician other than Leung Kwok-hung would have an embarrassingly low approval rating.

Of course, by my standards, just about nobody would be ready for democracy.

Perturbed have a very strong bais against China, I dont know why. with all the governemt murderings ands ect, I think he watch too much TV. and let me guess Tibet is not part of China right? lol

Anyways I agree, China is not ready for democracy.

However here is an interesting thought, so many people seems to think democracy is the cure all for everything. Dont get me wrong democracy is good, but it doesn't solve much of the problem China face today, infact if democracy is applied to China today, it would create alot more problems. So the people who bitch about China not being a "democracy" are either ill informed or have ill intentions.

btw, I'm sure democracy will follow as soon as the rural areas of China is on their feet.
