I know many nationalists would disapprove of taking interest in non-white cultures - although I think that would be a silly approach to take.
Not only would it be silly to think that way, you could run the risk of being called a racist.
I see through the smiles, and realise how China is playing the West and individual Westerners in its own advantage.
Being able to see through smiles is always an advantage when playing poker. The question is, how good a hand does China have ?
China has an eminently sensible policy in an international world, designed to keep China Chinese.
And so China has always been China...well for a few thousand years at least. There actually are Chinamen and Chinese women in China. In comparison, how many Canadians are there in Canada when it can hardly be called a nation to begin with ? Canada is a federation created out of thin air by the British in order to secure their minority status in a land they had conquered or ran away to.
They announced they are moving to Calgary, Canada, in June, and can hardly say one word in English and sought my help to brush up their English in six weeks to a level where they could function in Canada. This sort of thing greatly annoys me.
I have a feeling anyone learning English annoys you because that is undeniable proof it is not their first language. But if they are white skinned and asking the same, would you be so annoyed ?
Basically I told them they wanted to scrounge off Canada - ??? in Chinese.
That's also what I think of anyone abroad when they ask about immigrating to Canada and wish to learn English. I yell : "SCROUNGE-OFFERS !!!!"
They will often say that it is to help China become a "rich and powerful country". This is very disconcerting, as Westerners are generally learning out of an interest in other languages and cultures, not out of a pure desire to promote their country's geopolitical power.
ROTFL !!! Yeah sure. How about the Acadian deportation, the Québec conquest, the Indian reservations, the internment of Japanese etc... for just a few examples ?
I am not an English teacher and I am relucant to help anyone's English, unless it is strictly mutual for my Chinese, knowing the geopolitical strategy that lies behind China's current enthusiasm for English language learning.
I believe that to this author, Chinamen have become the modern day bogeymen.
I also asked these Chinese how their French was. They didn't speak French. But I said, "Canada is supposed to require immigrants to speak French". They affirmed, rightly, that French is not needed to live in Calgary. I thought, "you cheeky *********s, you can't speak anything other than about one sentence of English, and you are happily sitting there writing off Canada's French-language heritage".
So what if this Chinaman is writing off Canada's French heritage ? That is a positive sign that he is quickly learning what it means being Canadian. Looking at the growing rate of French-Canadian assimilation into the anglo North American mass and how so few English Canadians actually learn and speak French, I'd say this Chinamen has learned his lesson well and should be ready for Canadian citizenship.
Chinese immigration is menacing as if the USA goes to war with China, can all the Chinese in the USA be interned???
Spoken like a true Canadian.
