The only reason for the continued existence of the UN is to allow inconsequential mini-states like Canuckia, Sweden & Venezuala to have a forum to bitch, moan and whine about how inferior they are to Americans.

The US should expel the UN cretins and auction off the UN buildings for private development.

------------------------------------------
The only reason for the continued existence of the UN is to allow inconsequential mini-states like Canuckia, Sweden & Venezuala to have a forum to bitch, moan and whine about how inferior they are to Americans.
You have clearly never heard of UNICEF, UNESCO, or any of the other UN programs to help people around the world. The UN is far more than just peacekeeping; do a bit of research next time, and you won't sound like such an ignoramus.

I don't think comments or even commentors like the one above even merit a response. Some people just plain love fascism and thumping others, on a board like this we just have to live with it, and deride, ridicule, or ignore it.

To actually add some content to the conversation this is 'partly' a defensive measure. Many so called 'develooping countries' are now approaching 'developed' status, thanks not only to mass economic developments but also because of the declining standards of living and the environment in G-8 countries. These countries have generally been the whipping post of modern capitalism, and are quickly realizing that no matter the economic tools available, they will continue to be raped of resources and starved of real investment.

We saw this at the last economic summit, where 'third world countries' banded together to defeat many new economic issues. These were trade negotiations, not UN summits, but the effect is the same. These countries have been clamouring for justice in economics, and many industrialized countries are clamouring for the UN to give MORE power to the general assembly and take away veto and special powers of the security counsel.

Ironically, it is Canada's model of government that the US is pushing, NOT a "capitalist" model. They want democracy, but not REAL democracy. They want token representation, just no real power in the hands of the electorate. It would be quite easy for people to play a part in the decisions of their government, but this is something that they want to avoid at all costs. I'd add that Canada isn't THAT far off their page, they love to talk sweet and saccharine about other countries problems, but certainly not Canadas.
