It's funny that everybody is after only the UN on this. It isn't like they operate in a vacuum. Sure UN people took bribes. Everybody took bribes. I'm wondering how far it will be allowed to reach into the governments of the Security Council before attempts are made to get it shut down. How long before Halliburton gets mentioned? How long before the leaders (or former leaders) of France, Britain and the USA are implicated? On a note closer to home...how long before Paul Martin's name comes into it, or some senior Alberta types? I think this is good for the UN and the world. It's going to stir things up a bit, and it's going to get ugly, but you can't cure corruption unless you drag it out into the daylight.

Agreed Rev Blair, but do you really think it will be allowed to surface? I mean the whole truth? I have a feeling some people are going to start to disappear, didn't one fellow in Britain already 'commit suicide' over the Iraq issue?

I don't think it will be as obvious as that. If the whole truth doesn't come out, and I doubt it will, there will be a lot of people pursuing other career options and returning to the private sector. There might be a rumour or two, but it will kind of disappear. The UN will take a hit, but not the governments that have the pull.

There's already a growing movement on the US right to point to the UN and say, "See, they're corrupt." That scale of dishonesty can't happen without major connections within both the oil industry and government though, not to mention shipping. It takes a whole lot of corruption in a whole lot of places and Bush and his pals are the ones with pull in those areas in the US. Here in Canada it points to Paul Martin's shipping buddies and those with connections in the oil patch.

I wish that would come out, that somebody would start really nailing things. Everybody has too much to lose though
