I've got a horse rancher as my neighbour, and he just has lots of tall trees. That engourages hawks to nest, due to the nearby free lunch.

The sky can have a dozen hawks and falcons in it during the day. Much prettier than gassing them.

Gassing them with exhaust works. So does pumping water from the slough into their holes. So does shooting them with a .22. So does snaring them.

Doc's idea strikes me as being the best though, having participated in all of the other methods. It's a lot less labour intensive.

The terrible thing about gophers is they're are so darn cute! Standing in the middle of the road with their tiny paws together as if praying you won't hit them, but still standing in the middle of the road. One stood on my front porch for hours like that, then I discovered his trench under the steps, around the perimeter of my house through my flower beds and up the back side of the house, huge hole; incredible amount of work. Then he found the garage, discovered something that didn't like him, and he is no more.

I'm rather surprised the corporations haven't come up with a way to get them to dig ditches? Mind control, remote control on their little ears or something similar to what their doing to us....ah geez I just realized it, we are the guinea pigs this time?? hee hee

I tried putting water down the a vole hole once and let the hose run ALL DAY. It didn't do anything. That being said, I'm talking about voles, not gophers. Voles may have a more extensive tunnel system, I don't know but based on my experience I wouldn't waste any water trying it on gophers. Bring on the hawks.

We always used a gas-powered pump with a 2 inch hose on it. The holes fill right up. You likely need more pressure and volume than a garden hose gives you, Wraun

A Saskatoon lady interviewd on CBC mentioned a simple solution. She said put a piece of Juicy Fruit gum in the entrance of each hole. They eat it and it plugs them up permanently. Pain in the ass for the gopher tho.
Brent
