Jakob, at the time I was spending a lot of time outside because it was mushroom season, and that's the only time I saw anything like that. It was close, though, and I could tell it was a military copter with only one missile or rocket or whatever those are called on it. It flew low down the Copper Valley (think that's the name... it's behind Copper Mountain in Thornhill) and was headed towards the Skeena Valley.
I remember it was close enough after 911 that I was scared at first, but then I realized there's no target whatsoever in the area, so I settled down a bit.
But actual troops in Canada? Well, if you talk to fishermen in Prince Rupert, they'll tell you of spotting submarines off Canadian waters, since before we acquired those rustbuckets from the UK even. The subs are big enough vessels and navigational hazards that their presence should be anounced, but never have been.
I don't have a nautical map here right now, but there's a sub-marine military testing facility at the very southern tip of the Alaskan panhandle, just West of the mouth of the Nass River inlet. Presumably this explains the Subs, although I don't really understand why they wouldn't have to announce their presence in such places as Prince Rupert Harbour. Kind of disconcerting that the American military has been covertly exploring our coasts for years.
Hope this is helpful info in some way!
