That is a very interesting post, but the one thing I missed is that our military needs to be under Canadian Command and we need to get civies out of making military decisions. Example instead of deploying one military group of say 300 soldiers, they will send three different groups (of 100 each), who hate each other and therefore there is no comraderie and it makes them less effective. Military leaders know their men/women and should be decided how they work best under specific circumstances. We need to have a solid military to address Canadian needs and decisions, if we chose to support an ally that should be our decision, not made by a foreign power.

Over the years DND has become no more then a civilian bureaucracy and unfortunately civilians never make the best decisions as far as military affairs go (They do not understand how a military organization works). We also ened to get civilians out of our logistics brigades and out of the army. They become a liability on missions and end up creating extra hassle for our men at arms.

Also this is a global world and Canadian decisions should be amde more on how it will affect the world not just Canada. If humanity is ever going to achieve its full potential we need to start working together and think about the world as a whole when making decisions.

Canada should have never gotten rid of our division in Europe either. This gave us such an advantage when dealing with foreign crisis and aiding allies.

This is more might makes right-isms. It doesn't, never has and never will. All it makes is someone else trying harder to be righter. So we end up spending all our capital on illth and less and less on wellth.

I agree with you Milton, and there will never be enough war power for some, and funny thing is there always seems to be enough money for fire power if the government is willing but never enough for food, shelter and healthcare??

Stymiest, you have obviously been hearing the globalization theory long enough to believe it is the only way to go. They are wrong, and there isn't a plan to make the world a better place, globalization is a plan to suck the life out of the people, turn us all into slaves, like machines working for a handfull of people so they can reap the rewards of the earth. Very simple plan and some of us are buying it hook, line and sinker! I believe it's the sinker that'll really get you in the end!

I am highly patriotic however and have some of the same morals that you people here seem to have.

Generally I see your ultimate goals as being good goals for canada to achieve its just that I want to take a different path in achieving them. Like I stated above the problem with our military is logisitical mostly and over deployment. We don't have a clear foreign policy either. This is partially due too the fact that not many Canadians know where we as a nation want to stand either.

What I am proposing here is nothing overly ellaborate really. No New Brigades/Nothing really that new. All I am proposing is an upgrade to our present facilities and equipment so canada can continue to spread its good will and message around the globe. Some may think that we should play the role as isolationist. Thats fine, but i for one believe as a leading middle power in this world Canada should be setting the bar for other Nations on this planet and showing them how things should be done.

Now you should all agree with me that these are really values that we as Canadians truly believe in and we should uphold them. I am not a globalist/I am not really a conservative/I am not a liberal I am a nobody and I know that other systems are not going to bend over backwards to accomodate us. if you think for a second the United States will just let us close our borders off and play Mr. Isolationist you've got it all wrong. We need to work with our neighbours to the south and show them a thing or too about running a country.

Canada is a great country with great people and great values but i believe we can be doing more in the world to get our message out too the people. This includes militarily. Trying to pretend that thigns are ok in this world is not a good foreign policy. Some people have mentioned Romeo Dallaire and Rwanda on here and how America did nothing well Canada did nothing aswell we did nothing and stood by and watched 800,000 people get slaughtered like the rest of the western world did and that shouldn;t go on. WE should be using our military to get rid of the thugs which run this planet.

ANyways thats just a tiny part of my views
As I see it, globabisation isn't one huge master plan. There's no document stamped "Globabisation: How to Conquer the World" secreted away in some corporate office. Business isn't concerned with domination, it is concerned with profit. You can't really say globalisation is wrong or right. Aspects of it are detrimental, but it is also beneficial in many ways. After all, globalisation is made up of many different ideas and strategies, some that work, some that don't. We have reached the age of globalisation and there is no turning back. The effects of globalisation will be defined by how we implement it.

But that has strayed a little from the topic of this discussion.

Let me explain how the military fits into this new world. As we enter this new age and tinker with globalisation, trying to get it right, regions are bound to destabilize. In my opinion, it is our responsibility as global citizens to help out. Militaries must be used to maintain stability in an ever-changing world. This will be a new era for peacekeeping. Canada must meet this challenge with a mobile and effective armed forces, capable of protecting our national interests, working with our allies and peacekeeping throughout all corners of the globe. Don't expect our politicians to take the initiative on this because they won't. It is up to us as Canadians to demand improvements to our military, and an effective and comprehensible foreign policy.
