If you look at the events as they unfolded, you will see a great deal of shock and horror at the news, perhaps those relaying the information to the Commissioner were excited and misled him, to his credit he did retract his statement and although I agree that the media and some politicians were quick to use this incident to further their positions on various issues, I don't think that we need to get caught up in more contraversy over his statement.

To me the issue is huge, the grow up is incidental, the senseless deaths of four young men who swore to serve and protect is the tragedy, and I am sure there will be plenty of inquiries into what happened and why. Perhaps there were mistakes made, but the one I see, from the news reports is that this man was out of prison, was capable of acquiring weapons, and that gun registration doesn't work as many of us knew it wouldn't, and that in his case, the judges did not take him seriously. But of course hindsight is always 20/20 and I think there will be enough blame to go around for some time.

To his credit ............. no ........
he knew he was lieing, period.

You just accept the fact that any and all beaurocrates lie to the citizens of the country to further there own agenda's.

Recalling no one did anything on my complaint of perjury by the previous commissioneer of the RCMP
to the Senate of Canada, re DNA data bank legislation.

Three day's after I made it public at an election debate, he (retired)!

But lets count the number of prosecutions against the rcmp for perjury ...............0

lets count the number of prosecutions against Crown Prosecutors for perjury ..........0

the list of wrongful convivtions ..........endless

Dennis Baker
Dennis, clearly you have far more expertise in this area than I. I was making an observation on what I saw and heard in the media, I wasn't at the farm, I wasn't at the press conference, nor do I know for certain the man's intentions. I know the RCMP are not perfect, I know there are bureaucrats that mislead us, intentionally at times, I am not naive, but I am trying to be fair, since I don't know the inside story. I also know that there have been unfair practices within the law, in the courts and in our government, but just because it can and does happen, doesn't mean it did happen in this instance.

I am not willing to paint an entire organization or all its members with one brush, nor am I willing to generalize or place blame without the facts. I have a suspicious mind, but I don't accept things as being completely black or white until I have plenty of fact to support one view or the other. You are entitled to your view and so am I.

your view is based on marketing through the media!

Mine is based on reality not theory!

so perhaps you might invte the Comissioneer to debate the isue with me instead of playiong the part of "yes Woman".

Dennis Baker
It's not about the drugs. It's about the flow of illegal guns from down south, and about the courts worrying too much about the rights of the offender instead of the victim and the public.
The drugs and the guns are actually nicely linked. Pot gets shipped south in return for guns being shipped north, so there IS a connection. The question is: was there a connection in this case? If, as you've stated (and I have no reason to believe it isn't true), there were only a few plants on the farm, then this man most likely didn't exchange drugs for guns. Rather, he likely bought the guns from someone who did. So in that regard, you're right - it AIN'T about the drugs.

Maybe we should focus more on keeping control of the drug trade out of the hands of organized crime and less on the punishing of small-scale operations. But hey, maybe my ideas of starving the crime industries are too radical. It's not like ending alcohol prohibition in the US undermined organized crime then... *rolls eyes*

The investegation is still ongoing, but it looks like this guy's primary income was from stealing vehicles and chopping them up. MJ was just a side line.

It is obvious that there were major screw ups.I am no fan of our legal system. But,why was this guy out? That goes directly to the judges. There is a problem across Canada with these educated twits. They lack the ability to think.
This problem is consistant.Repeat violent offenders are slapped on the wrist.Gun laws of course don`t work.Ask any criminal. Why did these cops not get the emrgency response team? What are they paid for? They knew the guy was nuts and violent.Yet they go there with pea shooters. If anyone out there thinks a shotgun is a BIG gun.Think again. If your opponent is armed with a high powered rifle, your shotgun is USELESS.
As for the grow op BS what can I say yadayadayada etc.
They will need more money to create a special yada to go after yadayada to make society safer yadayada.
To all those cops,judges,politicians,lawyers,yada.
GET A BRAIN!
