First Nations peoples need to have a direct ownership in the resources, which are all situated on their lands and which they have not been compensated for by the Provincial government.

This rise in oil and gas prices has effectively made the Alberta Tar Sands a viable economic operation. While it has put royalties and tax funds into the Alberta economy giving us ten years of surpluses, in actuality Alberta Royalties and Taxes from Oil and Gas are the lowest in the world. In fact we make more money in VLT's and Tabacco taxes then we make off the Tar Sands.

This is the essential reason that our resources need to be taken out of the hands of the State, in this case the Alberta Government, and put back in the hands of the people, us the citizens, the first nations, and the workers who construct, produce and deliver the oil and gas.

Interesting ideas, imagine the people owning their own country and resources? Anyone thought about how that could happen?

1) People must realize that Canada=Canadians, and it follows that all Canada must therefore be property of all Canadians. Therefore the resources are owned by all Canadians, not corporations.

When they realize that, hopefully, they'll be outraged at how resources are sold back to them at outrageous markups.

Getting them to do something about it however . . .I haven't got that far yet.

This being said, it will only make a difference for us if they stop spending all of our government surplus and other funds paying banks in the form of usury, instead of the military, infrastructure, social programs and so forth.

I have no problem with crown ownership as long as our government is not manned by incompetents.

As for the workers owning this, I'm surprised more people don't own things co-operatively instead of begging for socialism...

-A for oil though, I disagree with the blogger that the natives should get any revenue. they already get a MASSIVE amount per year--11 billion, and largely squander it through corruption, and have a massive rate of unproductive behaviours. They also have no need for the money, while our cities, military do.

Aboriginals get 7 billion dollars to take care of 2 million people. That's nothing considering this is their land and what do they see of oil, diamond and gas revenues? Very little.

If the federal government nationalized oil it could dedicate a certain percentage to aboriginals and promise to spend the rest on child care, education, pharma care, homecare etc. Then we would know oil revenues benefit everyone.

If the government owned the oil it could control prices for small businesses and truckers. It makes sense but then again with Liberals in power these ideas will never turn true.

Natural resources represent our working capital. If we livge off our working capital, we'll be broke, simple as that. I quite like the notion of actually acknowledging that we are but guests and renters in a land previously settled, and should be paying rent (seeing as we apparently won't go away). But not through the chiefs and band councils, as they are as crooked as our own politicos. How is it that the richest reserve in Canada has some of the poorest inhabitants?

Who are you, an immigrant to decide what the Native people get?

The Natives have lived in Canada well before the white man arrived.

The white man and the immigrants have stolen our birthright

Because people like you made them poor. You took advantage of their trusting nature and robbed them of what was duly theirs.
